What is Uplighting and is it Necessary at My Wedding!
So you just hired a wedding DJ and you're thinking about adding uplights! What is uplighting? How many should I add? What's it going to cost and is it worth it? These are all questions that are probably running through your mind. Here at Look Entertainment, we encourage all our bride and grooms to add uplighting because we think it makes all the difference at your reception!
What is uplighting? Uplighting is a popular lighting effect created by strategically placing wireless LED lights on the floor and pointing them up to light the walls or draping. This creates the effect of "up lighting". Uplighting is the best way to dramatically improve the ambiance of your event space, especially during the open dance! Every DJ uses different style lights and so asking questions like "will the lights be hot" or "have wires" is important. Look Entertainment uses wireless LED uplights which never get hot. This is important because kids at weddings tend to touch uplights and this can cause burns. Our lights are also wireless so this means we can place them anywhere at your reception. Being creative with light placement is key to a dramatic effect.
How many should I add? This really depends on the size of your venue and effect you're looking for. The bigger your venue the more lights you will need to make a noticeable effect. On average 20 uplights usually does the trick. Some venues will supply you with pre-installed uplights. This is great, except that pre-installed uplights mean you can't get creative with placement. We have been to plenty of weddings where the venue provides lights and the bride still rents more from us. This always creates an amazing and dramatic lighting effect! If you're asking yourself how many uplights should I add? Just remember, the more the better!
What's it going to cost? Every DJ's pricing is different and it really depends on several factors. But, here at Look Entertainment, we charge $35 per light or $250 for 10. Our DJ's will come to your wedding and set up the lights for you. Once your open dance begins we switch our lights to "sound active mode" which creates our signature look and gets the party started! Sound active mode means the lights will switch colors to the beat of the music all night long. Most DJ companies will charge for this option. We don't only encourage it, but we do it for free!
Is it worth it? Throughout your wedding planning journey, you will be asking yourself this question over and over. From dessert tables to exotic animals, the options to make your wedding unique and amazing are endless. And is it worth it will be that number one question you keep asking yourself. But, there is only one thing that you really take away from your wedding and that's the photographs. We have found that your reception photos look 100% times better with uplighting in the background. All of our wedding photographer friends tell us what a difference it makes in creating those fun-filled dance floor photos! Not only because the uplights fills the dark spaces of the venue, but because people will actually get up and dance with the right ambiance. And creating the right ambiance is exactly why we encourage everyone to add uplighting to your wedding!
